Opening Warm-Up / Imagination
Set up
- Use an open safe area with cones marking the edges if helpful.
- Children spread out with enough room to move in their own space.
- Coach stands centrally and introduces an imaginary adventure — jungle, under the sea, beach, zoo or farm.
How to play
- Tell the children where the adventure is going.
- Ask them HOW we should travel there.
- Let children suggest the transport — aeroplane, train, boat, running, hopping.
- Everyone copies the chosen movement.
- Arrive at the destination.
- Ask what animals or things they can see.
- Children copy those movements — monkeys, elephants, snakes, lions.
- Continue through several short adventure moments, then call PAWS/READY.
Coach cues
- “Show me how we travel!”
- “What can you see?”
- “Find your own safe space.”
Early Years 3–5
Allow lots of imagination and child-led ideas. Use large exaggerated movements and keep instructions extremely short.
KS1 5–7
Add movement challenges: change direction, faster and slower, balance, jump, react to signals.
Safety
- Children keep their eyes up.
- Maintain personal space.
- Avoid uncontrolled sprinting.
